Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Board Operations Suspended Following Departure of Board Members

The Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Office wishes to inform the community that, as of June 24, 2025, the current term of the Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Board (“the Board”) has come to an end.

Chairperson, Tara Jacobs has chosen not to seek reappointment and has concluded her mandate as of June 24, 2025. Board member Darlene Alfred has also formally resigned, effective the same date. Kary Robertson, an Alternate Board member, resigned earlier this month, effective June 6, 2025.

With no remaining members in place, the functions of the Board are immediately suspended. No further regulatory approvals or decisions will be issued until new appointments are confirmed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke.

The Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Office (KCCO) extends its sincere gratitude to the outgoing Board members for their commitment and professionalism. Their dedication to building a safe and well-regulated cannabis industry was unwavering throughout their tenure.

Despite facing persistent challenges and complex circumstances, the Board remained committed to fulfilling its regulatory responsibilities with integrity and independence. Their departure reflects not a lack of belief in regulation, but a stand for how it must be done, with stability, transparency, and a shared commitment to seeing it through.

The KCCO remains operational and will continue managing administrative responsibilities.
